"Bag Lady, you gone hurt yo' back, dragging all them bags like that." - Erykah Badu
OK, you got me, I'm not sure that she was a prophet-- but she got it right when she sang about the pressure and pain that comes from lugging around the stuff you don't have to carry. I carried one in particular for years, and since I let it go, I've pledge to help other women do the same.
You know the one I'm talking about... It can make you cringe thinking about it... Forgiveness...
Many of us have one time or another fell victim to its sting. Finding it difficult to even rationalize the idea of forgiving someone who never apologized, or better yet, forgiving someone who isn't even sorry. Whose idea was this anyway?!
Chile, Im' jus' tryin' to help you! When you hold on to feelings that do not serve you, you simultaneously give power- YOUR POWER - to the things that do not make you stronger. For an immediate cure, choose today to put down the weight! Declare, I refuse to give energy to the things that deplete my power.
Know this.... Forgiving is not forgetting but rather It is remembering without experiencing anger. Its transformative nature frees up your power, thereby healing your body, mind and soul! This will form a pathway to a new place of peace where you can prosper and thrive despite all that has happened to you.
I implore you to choose today to create that pathway.
Sometimes, this means forgiving yourself. In other instances this will require you to forgive someone else. Either way, you can create a heart of freedom, inner strength and peace.
What I'm going to ask you to do after this is for those who are mature. Why? Because sometimes forgiveness requires you to forgive even those individuals who you know aren't apologetic for their actions.
Hurt people, hurt other people. Understanding this allows you to know that on some level the offender has been hurt before and acknowledge that they may not have been brought before to a place of processing and healing from their own personal offenses.
Attack is an easier response than forgiveness, and that is why we are so tempted to give into it. Let the cycle of hurting end with you. Let the attacks stop here! Forgive into love.
Everything we experience comes to teach us. So for each of the individuals that you need to forgive, search your heart for the lesson that you needed to learn. Write them down. We repeat cycles in our lives unnecessarily when we refuse to learn or fail to identify the lesson.
The lesson is the blessing.
Forgiveness is a process. You may notice that at one point or another you've went back to "that place" and picked the emotions back up. Remember that you have the authority to return again and lay them back down.
The more you consciously choose to lay down the feeling, leaving them back in that moment the easier the process of forgiveness becomes.
Prayer prompt: Dear God, I know that my ability to forgive is where my freedom lies. Hatred, bitterness and resentment do not empower me, instead they hinder me in great ways known and unknown. I am willing to forgive, and Lord I need your strength to do so.I take these feelings and place them in Your hands.
Affirm to yourself. I am now free. Peace, love, and harmony are within and around me.
Grace & Peace,
Jo The Giant, Your Transformation Coach
